Dredg

LeitmotifSo I’ve gotten quite a few responses to my call to find other bands like Breaking Benjamin, and one of the bands that came up was Dredg.

Over the past few days I’ve sampled (blatantly downloaded) any and all Dredg songs I can find.

And the verdict?

Well I didn’t hate them, but their sound is not exactly what I’m looking for. I don’t know that it is. Maybe it’s because most of their songs lack the hooks that Breaking Benjamin has.

El CieloAlso, they’re a bit too experimental with their sound for my mood at the moment. I find their songs too cerebral, while I’m looking for songs along which I can rock out with my cock out. At this point in my life, I don’t want music to make me think. I want music that makes me feel, and Dredg just doesn’t do it for me.

I find their sound a bit anemic, and I’m turned off by their penchant for experimentation. Not that experimentation is bad, but I am sick and tired of these artsy fartsy bands that have long forgotten how to play good ‘ole rock and roll. My time spent listening to Tool and its vastly inferior offspring A Perfect Circle has turned me off to such art fags, at least for the next five years.

Catch Without ArmsStill, the fact that I didn’t think they suck makes me hopeful that there are other bands out there worth checking out.

I’ll be “acquiring”—ok downloading— Wolfmother next. Tune in for that one.

Keep those recommendations coming.

I need more bands like Breaking Benjamin

Saturate…Because I am really digging them.

I’m not a big fan of Nu-Rock and other genres associated to Pogi Rock Bands which is why I have stopped listening to music altogether. I have been allergic to most forms of music that are not from the 70s, 80s, and early 90s. Yeah there are some new bands that are exceptions like Deftones, but nothing that really gets me excited.

Then somebody from another forum was so vehement about loving Breaking Benjamin, that I felt I had to check em out.

We Are Not AloneSo now I’ve had time to listen to all three of their albums, and what is the verdict? I am excited. Really excited. I can’t wait for them to release their next album because I haven’t been this excited about a band in literally a decade.

It made me realize that maybe I haven’t been giving new music a chance and there may be similar bands out there that I should listen to. Somebody mentioned that BB reminded them of Finger Eleven so I checked out one of their songs:

PhobiaGood Times By Finger Eleven

And it just annoyed the living piss out of me. That song was why I hate Nu-Metal in the first place. It was all form without any substance, and it was just downright annoying.

I am now in the search of other bands in this generation that may come close to Breaking Benjamin, and am hopeful despite the fact that most of the band’s contemporaries (Se7endust, Disturbed, etc.) don’t really do it for me. So I posted this message in the forums I frequent (as well as this blog on the off chance that somebody is still visiting my blog) to see if they can come up with something.

So please restore my faith in music.

Sitti’s Album Is A Crock Of Shit!

Café Bossa - Philippine Tagalog Music CDI know she’s the big thing right now, and she’s cute, and everybody’s raving about her album Café Bossa; but I say FUCK ALL OF YOU!

My girlfriend asked me to get her the album. Luckily, I found a copy of her album somewhere in the interwub so I simply downloaded it. And Thank God I did! Because if I had to pay for this pile of sin that is her album, I might have caused her bodily harm through the power of thought alone. I am confounded as to why she’s as popular as she is now.

Her voice ain’t all that great, and in fact, I can only compare her high squeaky voice to the sound one makes when a retarded cat makes love to a drunken violin.

On top of that, her album is only made up of like 10% original songs. I have nothing against remakes, but in the name of ALL THAT’S HOLY AND PURE, don’t fill up a CD with almost a shitload of covers that aren’t even all that great, and try to pass it off as an album.

So in conclusion, yeah, I’d definitely fuck Sitti.

That’s all.
