Here’s an update on the run I told you about a couple of weeks ago.
Well, I’m alive! For my first run, that went better than expected. Though at the start it didn’t look like it. You see I woke up with an intense pain on my right ankle. I have a mild case of psoriatic arthritis that I can never really quite get rid of. I was hoping that it wouldn’t bother me as much on race day because, well RACE DAY! Anyway, I took a pill of Glucosamine to help dull the pain and hoped for the best.
Thankfully, the pain started to subside when I started running. From the start buzzer, all the fear I had of coming up behind the other racers faded away. It was pure fun from start to finish. Well there was this part in the race, about 3/4 through the route when my sides started to hurt so I had to walk it for a bit. But I was back to running when the finish line came up and I finished with a not so pathetic time of:
23:48 minutes! (22:42 if you base on the chip time).
That’s good enough for me. I’ll take it. It’s not bad considering I’m an overweight fattie with arthritis.
Already I’ve decided to move up to 5k and I’ve signed up for said category in Unilab’s Run United for Wellness and Globe’s Run for Home.
I plan on sticking with the 5k category until I can finish it in under 30 minutes. Once I’m able to do that, then I can move up to 10k. Wish me luck!
