So I’ve gotten quite a few responses to my call to find other bands like Breaking Benjamin, and one of the bands that came up was Dredg.
Over the past few days I’ve sampled (blatantly downloaded) any and all Dredg songs I can find.
And the verdict?
Well I didn’t hate them, but their sound is not exactly what I’m looking for. I don’t know that it is. Maybe it’s because most of their songs lack the hooks that Breaking Benjamin has.
Also, they’re a bit too experimental with their sound for my mood at the moment. I find their songs too cerebral, while I’m looking for songs along which I can rock out with my cock out. At this point in my life, I don’t want music to make me think. I want music that makes me feel, and Dredg just doesn’t do it for me.
I find their sound a bit anemic, and I’m turned off by their penchant for experimentation. Not that experimentation is bad, but I am sick and tired of these artsy fartsy bands that have long forgotten how to play good ‘ole rock and roll. My time spent listening to Tool and its vastly inferior offspring A Perfect Circle has turned me off to such art fags, at least for the next five years.
Still, the fact that I didn’t think they suck makes me hopeful that there are other bands out there worth checking out.
I’ll be “acquiring”—ok downloading— Wolfmother next. Tune in for that one.
Keep those recommendations coming.
