A colleague and I were going back to the office after spending a hellish morning at Quezon City Hall. Naturally, our conversation topic was about local government units. She was a sweet old lady that everybody liked. But since our responsibilities at work don’t always intersect, I really didn’t know all that much about her.
“Makati’s City Hall is a lot better than Quezon City’s. Have you been there?” she asked me.
“Really? I don’t think so,” I replied.
“Oh it’s really nice. The lines are much shorter. It’s not as hot. And they even have an elevator.”
“Cool. Hey, how do you know? Do you live in Makati?”
She said yes. Then she proceeded to tell me about the perks of being a Makati resident.
I then remembered one of my friends telling me that senior residents get to watch movies free in Makati. So I decided to see if she too enjoyed such privileges.
She took a split second longer than usual before replying. “Uh, no. They only do that for senior citizens.”
Holy Fuck! She’s not a senior citizen yet!
“Oh….uh….really? I thought they do that for everyone.” I managed.
“Oh no,” she chuckled. “That’s for senior citizens only,” she repeated.
And I decided to keep my stupid mouth shut for the rest of the ride back to the office.
