So apparently, they’re making a Fraggle Rock Movie.
Awesome news for those of us who are in their late 20s and early 30s. I personally am psyched about this because this is one of my favorite shows while growing up. Not only is it the only show to feature Doozers, but it’s also the first show I’ve watched that talked about complex issues such as racism and how we each affect the people around us.
Of course, back then I didn’t know it was racism. I only referred to it as “How we’re so much better than our neighbors.”
One of the factors that helped greenilight the project was the respectable DVD sales of the first two seasons of the show. Which brings me to ask the question “What’s this movie’s target demographic?”
I’ve searched for any form of statistic that will inform me what kind of people bought the DVD. Either it could be parents who loved the show as kids and are hoping their kids will enjoy it just as they did; or it’s the kids themselves who are getting to know, and are starting to love the show. While the latter is the more ideal of the two possibilities, it’ll less likely to be the case.
As early as now, the writers need to answer that question before beginning work on the script in order to employ just the right voice by which they’ll tell the story. Make it too hip and “adult-y” and you lose any chance of attracting the younger generation. Make it too kiddie-friendly, and you run the danger of earning the ire of the show’s core fans. They key lies in being aware of what the TV show was all about without putting the original series on a pedestal.
Note what happened with Superman Returns. Briyan Singer’s respect for the original movies ultimately weighed down his movie with a lot of unnecessary baggage.

Speaking of things from my childhood, my buddies and I used do this. But we never thought of adding the magical ingredient that would have made us legendary : KUNG FUCKING FU.

For those lucky who can see this tv channel, BBC kids channel is airing this old show everyday since a month or two.
