I had a very hard time tracking down this film because every other search result gave me porn movies of supposedly underaged girls getting plowed through every orifice imaginable. When it’s not porn, then it was a French/Spanish dub without any English subtitles.
Thankfully, a generous soul uploaded an English DVD rip of the as yet unreleased DVD on the inturweb so people like me can get a peak. I just finished watching it this morning I realized that the trouble was all worth it.
Hard Candy is slang for an underaged girl. And true enough, the movie starts off with a 32-year-old guy picking up a 14-year old girl (Ellen Page) over the internet.
What he doesn’t know is that she is more than what she appears to be, and pretty soon the tables are turned on the pedophile.
Yeah, it plays like your usual run-of-the-mill psych thriller, but what held this movie together was Ellen Page. I’ll admit that her character is paper thin, but you’d be surprised with what she can do with so little. The movie pretty much contains just two characters, but what it lacks in people, it makes up for with sheer balls (no pun intended—you’ll find out why if and when you do see the movie).
It is now official: Ellen Page can do no wrong by me. But then again, I already knew that when she almost salvaged that big steaming pile of shit that was X3.
