If it’s a particularly slow day at the office, or if you’ve got like 8 hours to kill, I highly recommend this book. I’ve been thinking long and hard about how I can successfully capture the essence of the book in a nutshell, but I can’t. So I won’t. So there.
I’ve read the thing twice already, and the first time I was confused as all hell because back then, it was still hosted by my favorite comedy website PointlessWasteOfTime.com. Because of its location, I assumed that it would be a laugh-a-minute article not unlike the other stuff on the site, and I was sorely disappointed by the lack of dick jokes and euphemisms for gay sex that I’ve come to expect from PWOT. What I got instead was a mostly serious piece of literature with a conservative amount of jokes scattered all around.
I can’t say that I was displeased though. The prose, though not as elegant as that I’m used to, was effectively utilized to deliver some of the more complex ideas of the author in a way that’s easily understandable for regular readers of the site.
But after realizing that it was not meant to be a comedy piece, but a novella that happens to be funny at times, I grew to appreciate it more. And the second reading was all the more fun because of it.
So there. Go read it.
