Holy Crap! That episode was just SPECTACULAR—–
—ly boring!
Let’s see, Locke gets high, hooks up with Boone who tells him to save Ecko through an awesome, but an altogether pointless dream sequence. Then he saves Ecko and we find out he’s a hippie! Hurray!
Yeah. That’s pretty much the gist of the whole episode. The only noteworthy thing that happened was Hurley’s déjà vu comment while looking at Desmond.
For those still wondering what that meant:
Remember when Hurley caught up with Desmond in the jungle and Desmond talked about Locke’s speech when Locked hadn’t given the speech yet? No? Are you retarded? Oh, ok.
So either Desmond now has precognitive abilities, or he can travel through time.
One thing bugs me though; in Locke’s vision, we saw Henry Gale as a customs officer for the flight. Should we believe that or simply chalk it up as being an effect of Locke’s drug-induced vision?
Screencaps and detailed recap below if anybody cares to revisit this episode:

I think that Locke’s dream sequence was less about who the gang was before the crash and more like an abstract description of their status/situation now. Go back and look at it and you’ll see what I mean.
Thanks!
LOST seasons always seem to start really slow; remember how the first three episodes of Season 2 went over the same incident of Desmond with his rifle THREE TIMES from Jack, Kate, and Locke’s perspectives, before the story started actually progressing? It felt more like Rashomon, only with a Hatch.
I loved how Locke’s sweat lodge vision depicted Ben as a TSA airport security goon. So perfect. And now that the Hatch and all its scientific-industrial trappings are gone, note how Locke’s character is reverting back to Mystery Shaman Survivalist. The Numbers were bringing out the less mystical, more cynical aspects of his codependent personality. In a way, the implosion of the Hatch was like a twisted form of redemption for him, consummated by his quest to get Eko.
My own LOST third season roundup so far.
