So at the end of Season 5, Clark gets trapped in The Phantom Zone with no hope of escaping, leaving a Zod-possessed Lex Luthor to destroy, and eventually rule the world.

Sounds dire right? But not if you have:
Raya, a character pulled out of the writers’ collective asses who holds the key that can solve every problem that arose in the Season 5 finale.
The ultimate cheat code as far as this episode is concerned.
Yet, another seemingly impossible problem solved by the ever reliable Deus Ex Machina. But who cares? The action set pieces or how Clark comes to save the day is only secondary to the reason why I love this show so much. Smallville, at its very essence, is a soap opera.
It’s about Clark loving Lana, Lana loving Clark before she realizes he’s a moron, so she goes and bone Lex. Chloe on the other hand still has the hots for Clark, but knows that there’s no way she’ll ever be Lana, so she sets her eyes on Jimmy Olsen. Unbeknowst to her, Clark is slowly realizing (again) just how bonable Chloe really is as opposed to Lana, but because he is a moron, he keeps his mouth shut. Everything else—the mythology, Clark’s evolution to Superman, Lex’s transformation from good to evil—are all just icing on the cake.
Also, Raya seems like an awesome character. The whole “I’m in love with your father, but he’s dead now, and you’re not so bad looking yourself” vibe really works for me. Not because my dad screwed around with my girlfriend, but because if I had a son and his girlfriend looked like that, well you know. Also, if fan support doesn’t go her way, these will probably be the last pics you’ll see of her (dedicated to all those of you who have penises and aren’t afraid to use them):

Raya couldn’t live long enough. There will be too many Kryptonians on Earth. Like, Kal-El wouldn’t be the Last Son of Krypton if he and Raya would keep running around the Kent Farm like they did, right?
