I know most of you are sick of me constantly changing my mind: “Should I abandon this blog? Should I leave this host and transfer to a new host? Should my warrior robot race destroy humanity?” You know, the usual. Right before I got married, I decided to leave this blog for good because I wasn’t expecting to have a lot of free time to maintain it, as well as have some extra cash to pay for the hosting dues.
Then a few months ago, long after I’ve finally settled on a free blogging service, I discovered that this blog is not only still alive, but is still getting a decent amount of traffic. So powered by nostalgia, and a strong desire to check out what’s new with the latest version of WordPress; I updated the blogging software, then played around with the layout, and the plugins. After I was done, I realized just how much I missed having free reign over the content of my blog.
WordPress.com and Multiply.com, for all their awesomeness, enforce a lot of restrictions in terms of layout and content that I felt like I wasn’t getting the most out of blogging the way I had it here. So I guess, until I change my mind again, I’m going back to maintaining this blog.
I’m not saying that I won’t be changing my mind again in the future, but I promise to keep you updated.
Now with that out of the way, let me get right to the main reason of this post: Money. Maintaining this blog costs money. Money which I don’t always have. So right now, I’m opening myself up to any and all opportunities to get paid for blogging.
So as a supplement to the Google Ads I have plastered around my site, I’m trying out this service called Smorty. It’s just like Reviewme, where you get paid for your reviews or opinions about their products or those of their affiliates. I’m still not sure about the difference between the two services, but from what I gather, Reviewme pays you depending on your Alexa or Technorati ranking while Smorty pays you depending on how many reviews you write.
And since I always suffer from writer’s block, I figure I can satisfy the need to write by writing these reviews whenever I can’t come up with something. Also, my pagerank sucks.
Basically, you just submit your blog for approval, and once you’ve been given a go signal, you just wait for writing assignments to come. But you have to be quick though, because you have a small window before these assignment offers expire.
Guess what my first review assignment is.
Anyway, since this is still my first assignment from Smorty, I have no idea yet how much they pay or how often they hand out review assignments. But their business proposal sound good, and I’m not losing anything by giving this a shot.
Thanks to Jen for the idea.
