I was having dinner with the wife a couple of nights ago and I realized that the anniversary of when we became a couple was coming up.
“Hey, the 27th is coming up,” I told her.
“Really? Cool.”
Silence. Her expression was unreadable as she proceeded to eat her grilled ham and cheese sandwich. Then I realized I had nothing special planned. Should I have gotten her a gift? Should I have made reservations at our favorite restaurant? Should I have made any plans at all to make the day special?
She continued eating while I pondered the implications of her silence. Then she broke the silence.
“How many years have we been together?” she asked.
Then I replied with great relief “I love that you don’t know too.”
“Yeah, I don’t get all the fuzz about anniversaries too.”
Then we continued eating our dinner in contented silence.
