I didn’t hate it

Finally got to see The Da Vinci Code.

I have to say that I didn’t hate it.

Of course I don’t think it was a good movie by any measure; but as much as I tried, I couldn’t bring myself to hate it as much as I hated the book. Maybe it’s because I’ve already reached my hating quota for the week. Or maybe most of the things I hated about the book (the flowery words, the inelegant use of the English language, etc.) were not that apparent in the movie. I also attribute my extremely low expectations to my relatively non-lethal feelings about the film.

Having said that, I wasn’t blind to the flaws the movie had. Wooden acting. Heavy handed direction. Miscast actors. All of these were not lost on me. But like I said, they were not enough for me to be hating. Also, I don’t think I can stand another screening of a movie with as many false endings as I have chins.

It stars Jack Black as the manipulative Carl Denham who will stop at nothing to get his monster movie made. Adrien Brody plays writer Jack Driscoll, and Naomi Watts as Ann Darrow; the beauty who tames the mighty Kong.

So I think we’re ready. The chatroom is up, all we have to do is wait for Mike to join us, and we’ll get right to it:
