I talked to my friend, and it seems that a good thing to do would be to watch the first season of Angel in tandem with the fourth season of Buffy (Buffy first, then Angel), because when originally aired, Angel had the slot after Buffy, so a lot of the episodes were written together. After that first season of Angel, you can watch either show straight through. There are some connections in the later seasons, but none as important as in the first season. Heya.
